Another pivotal HIMSS event has passed. Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2025, one of the leading health IT conferences in the world, brought together healthcare providers, innovators, and industry leaders to showcase new technologies and exchange ideas.
First Products was there, highlighting our commitment to providing tailored products supporting traditional and digital healthcare workflows to healthcare organizations. After the event, we connected with First Products CEO Paul Smith and First Products Vice President Business Development Kim Marone to get their perspective on the mood and focus of attendees they met on the floor.
Both were pleased to see the increased attendance and higher attendee engagement this year.
“Everyone seemed very focused on understanding and managing the changes they are experiencing and expecting, with little to no anxiety about the future of healthcare,” said Paul. “They wanted to see new technology solutions and how our medical carts can play a vital role in addressing their key healthcare challenges.”
Per Kim, most attendees were interested in complete solutions. “They wanted to see how the whole package came together. Software, devices, and products incorporated into mounts and mobile medical carts. This is a continuing trend from last year’s event.”
These integrated solutions help solve challenges oriented around streamlining workflows, supporting new technologies like AI-enabled and VR devices, ensuring patient safety, and providing ergonomic comfort for caregivers in mobile health applications.
Discussions highlighted how medical carts are evolving to support these technologies, enhancing mobility and the ability to integrate seamlessly with patient data systems.
Paul said, “We had a very strong interest in our newer tech, including the VR-based training applications like our Virtual Reality Simulation Cart, designed to support immersive VR applications like healthcare education or military training.”
As expected, AI is rapidly advancing all healthcare equipment and software functionality. Both Paul and Kim were excited to work with new customers and partners to help convert new technologies into usable solutions for caregivers as rapidly as they need.
Medical cart manufacturers are increasingly tasked to design carts that integrate effectively with mobile health platforms, enabling clinicians to monitor and manage patient data anywhere in the facility or worldwide.
According to Paul, attendees responded positively to First Product’s Perfect Fit customization concept. He said there seemed to be less trepidation around customized solutions than in past years at HIMSS. “I think the different approach we are taking to help clients design their solutions is better understood and appreciated by potential new customers.”
The concept of customized products has become more mainstream and better understood than in the past. “It doesn't mean slow and expensive anymore, which we continually prove to our custom clients.”
Kim agreed. “The ability to create from a napkin drawing idea, with lower volume requirements than competitors, is an intriguing draw for attendees.”
This one-two punch of Made in the U.S. A. and a perfect fit customization process offers customers a premium customization experience without the premium price tag.
First Product takes time to understand unique needs and goals to deliver a perfect fit every time, with solutions designed to evolve alongside future technology needs. As the number of medical cart manufacturers decreases, customers are looking for solution partners that deliver value, speed, and superior quality.
The discussion of tariffs and the impact of global politics on supply chains naturally came up. As employing medical equipment and carts across small clinical settings or vast medical campuses in a timely way is a concern for most healthcare organizations, meeting a U.S.-based manufacturer was a plus.
With patient safety at the forefront of healthcare, medical cart manufacturers are focused on advancing acute care through initiatives like remote patient monitoring, which enables earlier discharges and safe home care.
Kim sees the impact First Products can have addressing healthcare inequities, another HIMSS theme. Health disparities persist, disproportionately affecting underserved populations, like addressing healthcare inequity requires expanding access to telehealth in underserved areas with technology-driven solutions. “I know we’ve impacted rural healthcare inequities, providing cart solutions to organizations like Health Research Institutes (HRI). In one case, an HRI brought critical care initiatives to K-12 students in health-challenged areas through a Telehealth medical cart solution.”
Key characteristics of acute care include immediate and short-term medical treatment provided to patients with severe or urgent health conditions, intensive care requiring close monitoring, frequent medical interventions, and specialized equipment. It also encompasses hospital-based acute care, including emergency departments, intensive care units, and surgical wards.
It's A Wrap!
It’s clear that innovation is driving healthcare forward, and medical carts will continue to play a pivotal role in this transformation. We're excited about the future and look forward to applying the insights gained at HIMSS 2025 to enhance our product offerings further and contribute to the ongoing evolution of healthcare.
